If you think you have a virus problem, one of these anti-virus sites is the place to start.

To stop nefarious types from accessing your computer through the Internet, you need a firewall and here are a few to try out.

If you want to see what Google's got in mind for the future, check their little website. It's some sort of market research by Google, but an interesting look at developments that may or may not happen.

And the USPS wants to help simplify your vacation planning. Now customers can put their mail on hold via an online form. From the USPS main page click "Receive Mail & Packages" from the blue bar. Then select "Put Your Mail on Hold" under Delivery Services.

They're rolling out the service in waves so some offices aren't covered by this system at the moment. Now if they could implement an online form to hold all bulk rate mail, I'd be impressed.

Tools

Software are toys, and though I like the newest gadgets, I seem to stick with those found tried and true. Call me old fashioned, but it's the corollary of "if it works, don't fix it."

One of my old standbys is AZZ Cardfile, a simple information manager that I use alot. As I go around the Web, I read lots of helpful items that I should remember, send to others, or use for research. I tend to highlight and copy them, and then paste them on a card in AZZ so that I don't have scads of scattered notes in files ready to be lost.

AZZ is a small program perfect for organizing notes, addresses, or whatever else you might have in a notebook or a Roladex. Go to their website, read over the FAQ, and try it out. There's a older now-freeware version, and version 3.0.

Another time-honored download is Pegasus Mail. For the benefit of new APS members and as a reminder to the rest of us, this is a full-bodied, easy to use, freeware e-mail program for the PC. The latest version is 4.0, and there are many add-ons and plug-ins for those who want something beefier. If you're trying to break the Outlook habit, see if Pegasus is to your liking.

Glassine Surfer

The Glassine Surfer archive is online along with other stories, help, and links to stamp collecting sites. We also host the Sociable Stamp Society chats online on Sunday evenings at eight o’clock eastern. Just click on “chat.”

When e-mailing me for the first time, please put "GS" in the subject line along with your topic. I bulk filter my incoming mail for spam because I have to and don't want to mistakenly delete your message.
